It’s new expansion time with Bungie rolling out Destiny 2: Forsaken this week and with it comes all sorts of changes that might as well be an entirely new game...OK maybe not entirely. Forsaken does change quite a bit, though, and if freshly coming back or starting up these little list of helpful tips should set any Guardian on the right path to taking it easy while enjoying the most of Forsaken; this is not an end all be all just some things noticed in the initial first few hours that will make getting through The Reef and the rest of the galaxy easier when taking down the big bad Uldren.

Destiny 2 beginner guide 2 is now in the midst of the Season of Arrivals, which as itself brought a new dungeon and public event to the game along with near weapons and gear to chase. So far it’s looking like a decent seasonal update and will likely serve as a good prologue to the major expansion, Beyond Light, coming this fall. Bungie has promised great content coming with Beyond Light (including the return of Hawkmoon!) as well as the "vaulting" of locations like Mars and Mercury. Seeing previous paid content get "vaulted" is concerning, but it should be fine so long as it comes back from time to time as has been promised. That issue aside though, the future is once again looking bright for Destiny 2. Let’s hope it stays that way.

On September 4, 2018, Bungie released Forsaken, the first major expansion for Destiny 2. From this moment onward, the game changed for the better. Just as The Taken King saved the original Destiny, it’s likely that Forsaken saved Destiny 2. With its launch, many of the inherent problems were done away with. New sub-classes were introduced with new Supers, ability recharge times were tuned to align more closely with how they were in Destiny 1 and Randomly rolled loot was back with even more ways to earn it. On top of all this, Two new locations were added, there were more secrets similar to the excellent "The Whisper " secret exotic quest from Warmind tucked away for players to find, and it was all capped-off with "Last Wish," one of the best raids in the series to date. With Forsaken, Destiny was finally back, and many fans were feeling happy.

Probably one of the more daunting challenges is breaking down the differences between New Light and the two major expansions: Forsaken and Shadowkeep. The new free-to-play experience is meant to get players on the sidelines in the door for the first time. Despite this, this free experience actually comes with a lot of content.

Bows join the large staple of weapon types available in Destiny 2: Forsaken. While silly on paper, the bows of Forsaken are surprisingly powerful and feel great to use. Players receive a bow early in the campaign and it’s hard to remove it after finding more powerful weaponry. While not the most practical weapon to take to a gunfight, bows make landing headshots so satisfying, especially when it causes a mini-explosion.

Crucible remains mostly intact outside of quality-of-life improvements. Bringing the player count back up to 6v6 was the right move and the lower time-to-kill vastly improves the experience. The significant multiplayer addition in Forsaken lies with Gambit, a new mode that blends PvE and PvP elements. The 4v4 mode tasks players with killing AI-controlled enemies and collecting and banking motes of light. After accumulating 75 motes, a Primeval enemy appears and the first team to defeat their Primeval wins. Of course, it’s not that simple thanks to the PvP elements. Players can spend motes to summon Blockers on the enemy’s map. Collect enough motes and a player can invade the enemy’s map for a short period.

Gambit is an excellent game mode when working with a functional team. It provides plenty of tension and excitement as both teams race to the finish and pulse-pounding action during an invasion. Like all team-based modes, Gambit is best when played with a group of friends. A team that fails to work together will quickly lose. Considering Gambit is a best of five game mode, keeping a solid squad together is vital.
