Each of Baldur's Gate 3 's classes offers different abilities and utility to a character in combat, dialog, and exploration. Each class has something different to offer the player and the party, and the Barbarian is no different in that regard.

However, the ability to take two actions in one turn is remarkably strong for casters, and the added armor proficiencies granted by the Fighter class are just the cherry on top.

Wild Magic Barbarians channel Wild Magic when they enter a rage, causing a Wild Magic surge similar to the one some Sorcerers can cause when casting spells. They also get the ability "Magic Awareness," which lets them use a bonus action to allow themselves and allies within 3m to add their proficiency bonus to saving throws against spells.

At level one, they also have the additional spell options "Faerie Fire" and "Sleep," allowing them to outline targets to grant advantage or just put their enemies to sleep. At level three, they can also choose "Phantasmal Force" and "Calm Emotions," letting them deal repeating psychic damage that will shift damage type to match the last attack that hit the target and allow them to immunize themselves and their allies from being charmed or frightened. Level five adds the options of "Plant Growth" and "Blink," letting them create difficult terrain and flicker out of reality after their turn to evade attacks (sometimes Fey Magic is fickle.)

When it comes down to it, the Githyanki are the best Wizard race BG3 players can choose because it saves players from using Spell Slots, and grants important proficiencies that greatly improve the Wizard's survivability.

Oath of Vengeance Paladins will break their oath if they take actions that show mercy for the wicked or go against the greater good. An example of this would be raiding the Emerald Grove alongside the Goblins during Act 1.

The best Wizard companions in BG3 are Shadowheart as the primary support of the party, Lae'Zel as your melee tank, and Astarion as another melee party member who can do extremely high damage and provide some use out of combat too.

In the case of the Warlock, this is the Hexblade, whose pact with sentient magical weapons forged from shadow makes them masters of melee magic. This new subclass opens up all kinds of new playstyles for the Warlock, including some secret synergies with the Shadow Sorcerer, so this guide has been updated accordingly.

At level Six, Berserkers gain the "Mindless Rage" ability, which grants them immunity to the Charmed and Frightened status effects while raging. It also prevents the "Calm Emotions" spell from ending their rage. At level 10, they gain "Intimidating Presence," allowing them to inflict fear on a target as an action. This can be useful for neutralizing foes and rendering them more vulnerable to attacks.

Elemental Damage sets are also quite effective on a Giant Barbarian due to their Elemental Cleaver ability, with the Gloves of Belligerent Skies and/or Boots of Stormy Clamour being a particularly valuable option if you favor thunder or lightning damage. You could also equip Winter's Clutches, the Snowburst Ring, and/or the Coldbrim Hat to freeze your foes solid. Another option is to utilize the Thermoarcanic Gloves, Cinder Shoes, and Ring of Self Immolation in a heat setup, and throw on the Cindermoth Cloak to burn enemies that damage you.

The Eldritch Knight serves as a way for Fighters to gain limited access to magic and, as a result, the ability to buff themselves and inflict elemental damage. Since they cast spells using the Intelligence stat, the Eldritch Knight subclass is particularly well suited to the Githyanki race's default bonus stats, though the full release allows players to adjust racial stat bonuses however they wish.
