However, staying on the ground gives you the chance to fight NPCs and other players. Dune Awakening’s third-person shooting feels surprisingly good - there’s a satisfying level of weight and control to eac action, so I was actively seeking out encounters instead of avoiding them which is so common in other survival titles. Fights aren’t simple either, so you need to be prepared for each
Unlike water, ammunition is plentiful and you’re introduced to weapon-crafting early on. With unique tools for blood extraction, placing respawn points, and resource mining, your inventory is full of gadgets. Rather than using pickaxes to farm copper ore, you use a lore-certified laser cutter. While I’m far from a Dune expert, nothing that Awakening introduces feels out of place in this unive
We made a few mistakes when first starting out, mostly exploring further than we were meant to at the beginning. In the first zone, the Hagga Basin, the main quest will take you to every important location - this means you won't need to explore the same areas twice, and you won't need to try and tackle them when your gear is under-leve
The Construction Tool is used to build bases in Dune: Awakening , which in the long run can be quickly recreated through Blueprints. Dune Awakening cheats: Awakening has promised some intense base-building mechanics, but for now, we kept it simple and began with a basic little house. Later on, as we acquired more crafting stations, we did need to make a second story for our base. With our house constructed, Zantara instructed us to gather more resources to craft a Blood Extractor and a Blood Sack: another method of hydration. After defeating enemies, players can use a Blood Extractor to store a certain amount of blood in a Blood Sack. Players can drink that raw if necessary (which includes penalties) or purify it at their base. We were taught how to do so before becoming exposed to Spice and receiving a vision directly us toward The First Trial of
While players will spend several hours just running through the desert from one location to the next, they'll eventually get the opportunity to build a Sandbike, which can be constructed piece by piece and customized to suit the needs of the owner. It can even be built to have its own inventory, which can be very helpful to hoarders. Initially, the Sandbike makes it a bit easier to avoid sandworms, but that changes the further players get into the game. Eventually, they'll be required to be much smarter about the routes they take. Even so, there's nothing quite like zooming through Dune: Awakening 's Arrakis on your very own Sandb
It’s exciting to hear that Funcom already has ideas for the future of Dune: Awakening. Working with such an established IP is exciting and limited, but Dune has plenty of variety to keep players coming back for ye
Waking up in a nearby moisture-sealed cave, the opening section of the game walks us through basic equipment like the knife, crafting simple items like healkits, extracting dew from nearby plants, and the freeform climbing system like Conan Exiles . We then met the mysterious figure, named Zantara, who explained we'd need to seize control of an Ornithopter to escape. To do so, we had to go back into the wreckage of the ship and activate the commander's emergency beacon to bring in reinforcements. In crossing to the downed ship, we needed to avoid sunlight or risk suffering the effects of sunstroke (which modifies every aspect of how a player navigates Dune: Awakening ). We killed a surviving prisoner with our trusty knife to take their cutteray, which is used to remove obstacles and obtain resour
That existing lore, and the attention to detail of die-hard fans, was something the developers at Funcom constantly had at the front of their minds while developing Dune: Awakening . I spoke to Gavin Whelan, the studio's Senior Art Director, about working with an existing IP and what the future holds for the upcoming g
"Working on movie licenses is problematic. I've worked with movie licenses in the past, and it's always hard to get information from the production team," Whelan told me. However, he said that Legendary has been "very good at keeping a connection with us. Feeding us information, giving us concepts, giving us production designs, all the way through to talking to the cinematographer, Greg Fraser. He’s a fantastic guy, really easy to talk to once I got past my fear of who he is, a double Oscar winn
We were supposed to use the sandbike to navigate to the second Trial of Aql, but it was far to the north of our location. While all movement to this point involved us crossing the open sands as little as possible, out of appropriate fear of sandworms, we needed to use the sandbike to cross a large open area. We knew it was a risk, but we did not leave anything behind in the base. Attempting to make that crossing led to our sandbike and us being devoured by one of Dune: Awakening 's sandwor
